This morning, I went to a snowy graveyard.
I brought a single red gerbera and a box of hot tamales.
I also brought balloons the color of the sky, and the color of her eyes.
They had notes and pictures tied to them.
And I know she's beyond the sky, but the sky was the closest I could get.
So I sent them into the sky.
I just took a deep breath, and let go.

And they floated upwards. I watched until I couldn't see them anymore.
They went straight to heaven.
My beautiful mother went straight to heaven two years ago today.
Today, be a little kinder, a little more gentle. Help someone. Put people before things. Do it for my angel mother. For my angel mother who served and loved and said "life is too short to slow down for speed bumps."
Eat hot tamales for her. Laugh for her. And don't slow down for speed bumps.
