Silver Lining: conference weekend

October 6, 2014

conference weekend

Conference weekend around here is three-fold: beautiful uplifting messages, lots of family time (aka snuggle baby girl in our pajamas time), and lots of yummy homemade food.

First and foremost, the spiritual messages. No matter what, I always walk away from conference feeling uplifted, inspired, and ready to be better. Our LDS leaders speak messages of hope, kindness, generosity, and respect that many can relate to, whether or not you are Mormon. Every year, the messages get more meaningful to me, and I loved the talks. Here were some of my favorite quotes:

The best paths in life are rarely the easiest.
-Carlos A. Godoy

The decision to change is yours and your alone.
-Jorg Klebingat

If you seek God's truth, that which now may appear dim, out of focus, and distant will gradually be revealed.
-Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Face and acknowledge your weaknesses, but don't be immobilized by them.
-Jorg Klebingat

We obtain a remission of our sins by pleading to God who compassionately responds, but we retain a remission of our sins by compassionately responding to the poor who plead to us.
-Jeffrey R. Holland

We are not here in this life just to waste our time, grow old and die. God wants us to grow and achieve our potential.
-Carlos A. Godoy

It's an unofficial rule that everyone remains in their pajamas during conference to allow for maximum snuggling (we all fought over who got to hold baby girl). I'm one of those annoying people who doesn't like to sit and do nothing. Conference weekend is basically a time where I can sit and do nothing and not feel guilty about it, because isn't it like a commandment to lounge around for two days straight?

And third, the food. On Saturday morning we had a delicious brunch with our friends. On Sunday, we went to my family's house, and basically it's nonstop gourmet food over there. Which is terrible for my fancy schmancy healthy eating goals, but - so so good for my belly :)

this is how the newlyweds "study" ;)

My dad's friend was visiting from Oregon. He's a pretty mild guy who comes from a small family, and at one point he said "there are a lot of conversations happening at once around here" haha. Couldn't have said it better myself, and I love it that way!

It was such a gorgeous day outside, too.

Did you watch conference this year?
If so, which talk was your favorite?
Also, is it possible to stay awake during Richard G Scott's talks?
This is a serious question.
I fall asleep every single time.
His voice is just. so. soothing....

    1. Me too! With a baby, I feel like I need at least two rounds to really understand everything.

  2. Oh thank you for sharing your favorite snippets! In my attempt to keep my little guy happy, I didn't get a chance to write anything down for myself, and I was wishing this morning for something like this haha. Also, snuggling babies during conference? THE BEST. She's darling and beautiful, as always. Those pink pjs are to die for!

    1. I didn't get to take nearly the amount of notes I usually take. But I got these little snippets down in my iphone, so that's something! haha.
