Silver Lining: It's your wedding! Smile, darn it!

It's your wedding! Smile, darn it!

This week's engagement tally: 2 (one cousin and one teacher friend)

And it's only Thursday! Anyone want to make it an even 3 before the weekend?

So with two people's weddings on my mind this week, I'm thinking about my own wedding. I was going to do a post on best wedding advice, things to not do, blah blah, but doesn't that seem kind of pretentious? Some bloggers do that all the time, and I'm like sweetheart.... you're not an expert.

Aaaaaaaaand now I'm going to pretend to be an expert anyway: my advice is decide what's important to you and invest in it. If food's your passion, spend on catering and save on guest favors or something you don't care about. For me, it was photography. A great photographer can make a normal wedding look exceptional and capture all the moments. That's what my fabulous photographer, Tara B, did for me (if she ever runs for office, I just found her a slogan. Tara B does it for me! her publicists can thank me later).

But really the bottom line is BE HAPPY! It's your wedding! We were so happy on our wedding day. Don't be so vintage and deep and artsy that you forget to smile.

We were dang happy on our wedding day, and I'm proud of it. You just can't fake smiles like these :)

Oh the smiles. Oh the happiness. And oh the blessedly warm weather that looks amazing on this freezing, smoggy morning.

Even though we're not experts -
what's the one piece of wedding planning advice you'd give?
What's most important when planning a wedding?

  1. I totally agree about investing in what's important to you. Could Maddie or Jen be the third one this week? Too soon?

  2. Hi, dropping by from the Almost Friday blog hop. My daughter got married last summer(outside on the terrace of the children' museum, in SC in July)...IKR! It turned out beautiful though!! One piece of advice...don't try to do EVERYTHING yourself. Also, PRAY to ensure that the most important things go off without a hiccup AND the venue DOES make a difference! Thanks for sharing...following you now! Have a blessed week!

  3. Photography was my one big priority for my wedding too--so in our tight budget, that was the one thing where we focused our money. I agree on your "be happy" advice--that's the real most important part. Don't let the stress ruin your day!

  5. My adivice? Pretty much the same as yours. Be happy. Things will go wrong the day of: there will be a massive snowstorm, the grooms ring still won't be here, and the photographer will have forgotten the SD card and need to run to target. But you know what? It's your wedding day and you only get one, enjoy every fun, romantic and silly minute of it!

  6. Great advice! I give two advice to my friends getting married: 1. Be happy, I mean you are marring your prince!!! 2.Don't have your reception the day of your wedding because the brides are usually drained when it comes to night, and your first night together you want to enjoy and not go to bed early due to being tired.

  7. Sweet pictures. I feel like everyone is getting married or having babies around my parts...goodness!

My advice is to not sweat the small stuff and don't micro-manage. I tend to do both those things in everyday life but I worked really hard to not do that for the wedding, I think it helped me in the long run.

  8. You are so funny and you and your man are too cute- love the wedding photos! I am no expert (;-)) but looking back on my wedding I really wish I would have cared more about certain things- I was just happy to be marrying my sweetie so my response to everything was "whatever you think- I dont care!" Well...now I care:-)

  10. A. love these pictures-- you are smiling big !! :)
    B. What temple is that???

    C. As for advice, I think that if I could go back in time and re-do my wedding and receptions, I'd remember-- that ITS MY (!!!) WEDDING, SMILE, DARN IT! :)

    D. Yet the best advice I received was-- its not the wedding that's important, but the marriage.

Anyway, I'm glad I found you through the blog hop, am now following along and can't wait to read more...
Hoping you'll stop by and say hi.

  11. Aww, I loved your wedding photos! Your dress is just beautiful, and you look so happy! Beautiful! I love seeing wedding photos.

I agree about investing in what's important! As a (former because I totally retired once I had a baby) photographer, photography was my priority. I had 10 hours of three photographers and everyone gave me the side-eye and was all "WHY?!" and I was all "because it's my wedding!" Almost four years later, so thankful for our wedding photos and having that aspect covered.

  12. We were particularly impressed with the manager and executive chef here. He made us feel comfortable immediately and was extremely responsive to questions (we asked a lot of questions).
